ISLAND TRYST

SUMMARY

In Island Tryst, Kate tries to quell the pain of losing her only love with the distraction of surfing treacherous waves. She befriends a lonely sea captain, who offers her the last berth on a two-week voyage to the Mentawai Islands , a world-class surfing destination in Indonesia . Although the surfing is as dangerous as it is incredible, the leering, hard-edged group of Australian men who round out the guest list make conditions aboard the Trinity unbearable. Downtrodden and shaken from being their pawn in a dangerous game, she returns home to pick up the pieces of her life.

Back in graduate school, Kate tries to give herself to her art but can’t quiet both the guilt slowly growing since that fateful day at Bukuya’s reef and the pain of her disturbed husband’s betrayal. When an invitation from the Mentawai boat captain to surf an undiscovered island in Costa Rica arrives, she jumps at the chance to distract her demons once again with an adventure. But as the glorious trip closes and her demons appear safely packed away for good, she discovers that she’s pregnant. Suddenly, Kate is forced to confront the painful past she has set adrift, pain that threatens to destroy a future that promises a miracle: a second chance at love.
